LATINO SUMMIT PLANNED MARCH 21 AT EAST LAS VEGAS COMMUNITY CENTER

A Latino Network of Southern Nevada summit is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to noon March 21 at the East Las Vegas Community Center, 250 N. Eastern Ave.

WEATHERIZATION PROGRAM ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS

HELP of Southern Nevada is accepting applications for its weatherization program, which helps qualified residents prepare for summer and winter weather.

The program assists low-income households owned by seniors, the physically challenged and homes with children.

Those who are interested can attend an application assistance workshop scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesdays at HELP of Southern Nevada, 1640 E. Flamingo Road, Suite 100.

HELLDORADO PARADE SEEKS ENTRIES

The deadline is April 28 for applications to participate in the 2014 Helldorado parade.

Floats, equestrian units, marching bands, performers, car clubs, motorcycle clubs, individual motorized vehicles, walking groups and other types of entries are welcome to participate.

Entries should pay tribute to Nevada, in recognition of the state’s 150th anniversary. More information on the sesquicentennial celebration can be found at nevada150.org.

The parade is set to start at 5 p.m. May 17 and is expected to last about two hours. There is no fee to participate. The application and parade rules can be downloaded from the city’s website at tinyurl.com/helldorado150.

REGISTRATION OPEN FOR NEVADA NATURALIST PROGRAM

The University of Nevada Cooperative Extension is seeking participants for the Nevada Naturalist program, which trains adults interested in learning about the natural resources in Southern Nevada.

Participants are set to study environmental education and interpretation, laws and regulations and environmental issues.

The program is focused on giving participants a broad understanding of nature and is intended for those interested in learning, volunteering, teaching and participating in conservation projects.

The program is scheduled from 6 to 9 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays beginning April 7. Field trips are scheduled Saturdays at various times and locations.

The cost is $195, which includes program materials, refreshments and some field trips.

REGISTRATION OPEN FOR ART CENTER CLASSES

Registration for classes for adults and children is scheduled March 29 through April 12 at the West Las Vegas Arts Center, 947 W. Lake Mead Blvd.

Classes include making videos and documentaries, African drums, tae kwon do and others.

The Las Vegas-Clark County Library District is partnering with East Valley Family Services to provide information and enrollment sessions at several libraries for the Affordable Care Act, commonly called Obamacare.

Enrollment assistance is set to be available from 10 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. March 20 at the Enterprise Library, 25 E. Shelbourne Ave.

Participants are encouraged to wear their favorite team’s colors, play the dice game bunco and try their skill at foam basketball. The cost is $5.

AARP VOLUNTEERS TO OFFER FREE ASSISTANCE WITH TAXES

Volunteers from AARP are set to offer free tax help for seniors 50 or older at two local sites.

The schedule is:

n 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. through April 15 at the Howard Lieburn Senior Center, 6230 Garwood Ave., for those 50 or older.

n 9 a.m. to noon p.m. through April 11 at Las Vegas Senior Center, 451 E. Bonanza Road, for those 50 or older.

The service is by appointment only. Patrons should bring their driver’s license, receipts, last year’s tax return, W-2 forms, a checkbook and all other tax documents pertaining to 2013.

CITY SEEKS PROPOSALS FOR ART EXHIBITIONS

The city of Las Vegas’ office of cultural affairs is seeking proposals for individual and group exhibitions for its 2015-16 gallery season.

The office is responsible for the Charleston Heights Arts Center gallery, 800 S. Brush St., and City Hall’s grand gallery, a sculpture space at 495 S. Main St.

Artists and/or curators must submit a written exhibition outline, an artist statement and an artist resume. They also must submit 15-20 supporting images, including identification information for each image, such as the artist’s name, the title of artwork and the medium.

All materials should be sent with a self-addressed, stamped envelope to City of Las Vegas Galleries, c/o Jeanne Voltura, 495 S. Main St., Las Vegas, NV 89101. Submissions are due at 5 p.m. May 1.
