Starbucks to close 17 LV Valley stores

Starbucks Corp. has named all 600 company-owned stores, including 17 in Southern Nevada, it plans to close in a bid to boost its business and weed out unprofitable locations.

The company announced 50 stores late last week, saying those stores would be closed by the end of July. Those include four in Alabama, seven in Minnesota and eight in California.

Now the gourmet coffee retailer is detailing all stores slated for closure. Including the eight other stores, California will now lose 88 stores with two each in Los Angeles and San Francisco, and 10 in San Diego.

Florida will lose 59 stores, including three each in Tampa and Palm Beach Gardens. Louisiana will lose 13 stores, nine of them in Baton Rouge.

The move to close the stores is a turnabout from Starbucks' aggressive expansion plans. But the company curtailed those plans as it saw traffic and its profits decline recently as the faltering economy has led some consumers to question their spending on pricey coffee.

The 17 stores that will close in Southern Nevada include ones at 65 E. Horizon Ridge Parkway in Henderson, 1340 E. Flamingo Road in Las Vegas, 4626 S. Maryland Parkway in Las Vegas, 2390 E. Serene Ave. in Las Vegas and 8000 W. Sahara in Las Vegas.

Also, 4810 W. Desert Inn Road, Suite 3, in Las Vegas, 7595 W. Washington Ave. in Las Vegas, 6100 W. Flamingo Road in Las Vegas, 4480 Paradise Road in Las Vegas and 2510 E. Tropicana Ave. in Las Vegas.

Also, 5181 W. Charleston Blvd. in Las Vegas, 5590 Painted Mirage Road in Las Vegas, 950 S. Durango Drive in Las Vegas and 6515 N. Buffalo Drive in Las Vegas.

Three stores in North Las Vegas that will close, at 6360 N. Simmons St., 1513 W. Craig Road and 3720 Lake Mead Blvd.
