Man slain in downtown Reno police shooting identified

A man killed in a shooting involving an officer in downtown Reno has been identified.

Washoe County sheriff's spokesman Armando Avina said Jace Herndon, 41, of Reno, died in the shooting Friday afternoon near Wingfield Park.

Investigators have released few details other than to stay Herndon was the driver of a stolen vehicle, and the shooting occurred after officers conducted a "high-risk felony traffic stop" of it.

The sheriff's office is leading a multiagency investigation of the case.

Four officers involved in the shooting have been placed on routine administrative leave. Their names haven't been released.
