Maria Del Carmen Gomez, 53, who overcame a brutal machete attack, has died of cancer Wednesday, according to Safe Faith United. She was attacked March 21, 2012 by her boyfriend outside a convenience store at Craig Road and North Fifth Street in North Las Vegas. Gomez sustained injuries to her head and her hands were nearly severed and recently had cancer surgery.
