Ashley Judd pressing charges over Twitter sex threats

LOS ANGELES — Twitter trolls zeroed in on Ashley Judd after she tweeted during the SEC championship on Sunday, sending her several sexually violent threats — but the actress is fighting back.

“I’m pressing charges,” Judd told MSNBC’s Thomas Roberts during an interview on Monday.

From the audience at the game, Judd tweeted that she felt Kentucky was playing dirty. Judd has since re-tweeted some of the reaction she got from the initial tweet as examples of the vulgarity she with which she dealt. The tweets called her a whore, a b—, a c— and threatened her with sexually violent acts like sodomy.

Judd explained that had she been in a more calm state of mind, she would have phrased it differently. “I might have said, ‘I feel really disappointed with what seems [like] ultra-aggressive play.’ Instead, I wrote, ‘I think Arkansas is playing dirty.’”

“The way things happen on social media is so abusive and everyone needs to take personal responsibility for what they write and not allowing this misinterpretation and shaming culture on social media to persist,” Judd said.

The actress, who stars in the upcoming film “Insurgent,” also spoke with Today’s Craig Melvin to expand on her initial reaction and legal-action declaration.

“The amount of gender violence that I experience is absolutely extraordinary,” said Judd. “And a significant part of my day today will be spent filing police reports at home about gender violence that’s directed at me on social media.”

A tweet from Ashley Judd’s account reads, “When when I express a stout opinion during #MarchMadness I am called a whore, c—, threatened with sexual violence. Not okay.
