Bare pool lounge at Mirage offers ‘European-style sunbathing’ for uninhibited guests

In a city in which classy-sounding names don't always accurately describe the places to which they're attached, you have to appreciate the name given to the upscale pool lounge at The Mirage.

Bare.

It's succinct, descriptive and totally accurate, seeing as how Bare Pool Lounge offers, as the phrase goes, "European-style sunbathing."

Don't misunderstand, adds Kalika Moquin, Bare's marketing director. "We don't require ladies to be topless, but if they do want to, they can."

And, in a city in which pool parties have become a ubiquitous summertime staple, making the option available does help to set Bare apart from the rest.

This summer marks Bare's fourth season of providing warm-weather comfort and entertainment to tourists and locals alike. Its physical amenities include a main pool designed to promote maximum interaction and a temperature-controlled, glass-enclosed infinity pool.

"It's supposed to be a really social environment," Moquin says, with a layout that allows guests in the main pool to see pretty much everybody else who's there.

"By the end of the day, it's one big party," she adds. "It's great energy."

The service provided by Bare's staff is "second to none," Moquin continues. Bottle service -- "the same bottle service you'd get at a nightclub," Moquin says -- is available, and guests also may select from among such classic poolside cocktails as mojitos and bloody marys.

Bare also offers a full food menu that includes both lighter fare and summer-suitable noshes ranging from salads and appetizers to pizzas, wraps and grilled entrees.

Daybeds, VIP beds and cabanas are available, and given Bare's lineage -- it's operated by The Light Group -- and its location, there's a good chance guests will find themselves hobnobbing with a celebrity or two.

Yet, Moquin adds, "we're very, very friendly" and locals make up "a huge part of our market."

"It's become a locals' favorite pool to hang out. People who live in Las Vegas come every day."

This year, Mondays will be industry days, when two of Las Vegas' top DJs, DJ Karma and DJ David Christian, will play.

"It's a real party for locals on Monday," Moquin says.

Bare can accommodate 500 to 600 sun-loving partyers daily, and guests must be at least 21 years old.

Bare kicked off its 2010 season last week with an abbreviated Thursday-through-Monday schedule. Beginning May 1, Bare expands to its usual seven-day-a-week schedule for the rest of the season.

Starting May 1, hours are from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Men are admitted for $40 on weekends and $20 on weekdays, while ladies are admitted free all the time. On Mondays, local men and local women are admitted free.
