‘Blacklist’ is fall’s best new network series

“Blacklist,” NBC’s latest go at the “twisted genius” genre that’s en vogue right now, premieres Monday at 10 p.m., and it may give NBC a breakout hit it desperately needs.

After decades on the FBI’s Most Wanted list, a traitorous former government agent (Spader) surrenders and offers to help bring down everyone he’s worked with, as long as he can be handled by — and demand quid pro quo sharing from — an inexperienced FBI profiler (Boone).

“The Silence of the Lambs” without the fava beans and the nice chianti. The first episode promises a taut, twisty series and a bit of prestige, both for NBC and Spader, who adds yet another flashy role to his resume. It’s the best new network series of the fall.

What: “The Blacklist”

When: 10 p.m. Sept. 23, KSNV-TV, Channel 3

Who’s in it: James Spader, Megan Boone, Harry Lennix

Other Monday night premieres:

‘Hostages’ not set to be fall’s breakout series

‘Mom’ is more forced and shticky than funny
