Fire up for glass, bead expo at South Point
If you’ve ever wanted to see how glass is sculpted into art, check out the Glass Craft and Bead Expo at South Point.
Through April 7, artists and glass blowers will give a variety of live demonstrations, including how to fire hot glass, make beaded crafts and more.
The expo, marking its 19th year in Las Vegas, will feature 250 art and craft classes; vendors selling glass and bead artwork, as well as materials to make your own. For the first time in its history, the expo will host a ceramics pavilion where companies will showcase their ceramic products.
Classes will be Wednesday and April 4 and require registration.
On April 4, 10 artists will compete in a “Flame Off” in which they race to create a piece of glass art in front of a live audience. Admission is $15 with proceeds benefiting Opportunity Village. There will be snacks, live music and a cash bar during the Flame Off.
The artwork created during this event will be auctioned at noon April 7 as part of a charity auction; those proceeds will also benefit Opportunity Village.
The expo is open to the public from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. April 5 and 6 and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 7-10.
Live demonstrations will take place every hour on the expo’s main stage. The expo will be in the South Point exhibition hall, 9777 Las Vegas Blvd. South. Admission costs $15 and covers all three days.
