Dining Pick of the Week: Kanji Steak & Sushi
June 13, 2014 - 8:00 am
Kanji Steak & Sushi
6125 S. Fort Apache Road, 702-914-8821
Kanji Steak & Sushi recently went through a face-lift, transforming from Geisha Steakhouse as new ownership took over the location. Much of the decor has remained, with wood accents and flooring lending a warm, homey atmosphere to its spacious interior. The servers are, as ever, friendly and courteous, giving the traditional, hearty greeting in Japanese to patrons upon entering. The menu offers sushi rolls, from warm tempura to cold options, with a variety of traditional sauces. Patrons also can enjoy the hibachi side of the restaurant, complete with chefs cooking at the table over open flame, often creating a spectacle for entertainment. The Hawaiian and Spicy Rainbow rolls are served cold, which is always a plus with fresh sushi, and each carried its own unique flavor. The ponzu sauce (a tart citrus-based sauce) served on the Hawaiian roll complemented the more delicate flavors of the tuna, while the spice of the Rainbow roll (the different fish on this roll are picked by the chef at the time he makes it) helped carry the variety of fish and shrimp on top of each piece. Bento boxes and sake bombs also are popular. Kanji Steak & Sushi is open from 11:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 4 to 10:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The hibachi starts at 5 p.m. daily. Happy hour is served from 4 to 7 p.m. daily; all sushi and select rolls are 30 percent off during that time.
