In 2012, Metro Pizza expanded its Las Vegas Valley pizza kingdom to the northwest, where it has staked a claim in the neighborhood near the 215 Beltway and Sky Pointe Drive. Sharing dining space with next-door neighbor Lulu’s Bread & Breakfast (co-owned by Metro Pizza co-owner John Arena and named for his mother), this Metro Pizza location has a spacious dining room, including views of the always-busy pizza oven, along with plenty of outdoor patio space. The location also does a brisk take-out business, with a separate entrance for grab-and-go customers. And there’s plenty to grab here: pizza selections alone comprise specialty pies (The Flying Piggle is barbecue pork topped with butter pickles and crispy onion strings), stuffed pizzas (the Stockyard has pepperoni, sausage and ground beef enclosed inside two layers of dough and two layers of cheese, with a topping of tomato or meat sauce), regular pizzas (pick your own toppings, or try a house combination such as The Green Valley with zucchini, mushrooms, onions, sun-dried tomatoes and olives) and East Side pizzas, made “the original way pizza was baked in Little Italy in 1905,” according to the menu, which means thick slices of mozzarella and rich tomato sauce. Is your mouth watering yet? There’s also baked pasta dinners (ziti, chicken or eggplant Parm and the Gigantic Baked Ravioli), paninis and subs (the meatball sliders, using a sliced garlic knot as a bun, are popular), salads and appetizers such as the spicy Nuclear fries and those heavenly garlic knots served with marinara sauce. If you’ve had the foresight to save a little room for dessert, you’ll be tempted by New York-style cheesecake, tiramisu and cannoli. Regular pizzas average around $10 to $12 or an indiviudal (9-inch) size and $16.95 and up for a large (16 inches). Metro Pizza on Sky Pointe Drive is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. Call for other locations’ hours. Catering is available. Monthly specials are posted at metropizza.com/calendar. For more information, visit metropizza.com.
