Roma Deli & Restaurant
8524 W. Sahara Ave., 702-228-2264
There’s a reason Roma Deli & Restaurant has been around since 1999. Owner Fausto Presutti, whose family comes from the Abruzzo area of Italy, uses his own recipes. A professional chef trained in Canada, he’s won five gold medals from the prestigious Canadian Federation of Chefs & Cooks. The 3,500-square-foot space is half-restaurant and half-deli, with cans of tomatoes, olive oil, pepperoncini, dried pasta and other grocery items for sale. The tables are set across from the deli counter, which is set off by a storefront shade fixture, giving the feeling that you came upon it while strolling down the street. For dinners, Roma starts things off with a variety of antipastos. Its big seller for dinner is the lasagna, followed by veal and chicken dishes. The eggplant parmigiana, which is baked, not fried, is another top seller. Dinner dishes start at $11.99 and include meat or cheese ravioli in basil, marinara or arrabiata sauce, tortellini, fettucine, gnocchi, penne con broccoli aglio e olio, spaghetti with meatballs that are larger than most restaurants serve, rigatoni boscaiola, baked ziti and fettucine primavera. The saltimbocca di polla is chicken breast topped with prosciutto in a white wine sauce. There is also polla alla parmigiana in a pomodoro sauce and polla al Marsala. Pork chops Milanese has two center cuts of meat. The bistecchina is an 8-ounce New York steak. Fish dishes include orange roughy egg-battered and sauteed in lemon butter sauce and salmone alla mugnaia, also in lemon butter sauce. Do not neglect the dessert display to the right of the deli. Pizzas, only on the lunch menu, come in four styles, including classic margherita. Lunch is served until 4 p.m. and dinner from 4 p.m. until closing. Roma Deli & Restaurant is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. For more information, visit facebook.com/romadelivegas.
