Green Valley Ranch’s Pond pool caters to locals with intimate feel, drink specials

When Marisa Scarpulla arrives at work, she walks right out into her backyard.
OK, technically it's not Scarpulla's backyard, but, rather, The Pond, the pool at Green Valley Ranch Resort, 2300 Paseo Verde Parkway, Henderson.
But, says Scarpulla, Green Valley Ranch's beverage director, walking into The Pond for the resort's summertime pool parties feels exactly like arriving at "a backyard, intimate party."
There, amid palm trees, an atmosphere of casual elegance and a color scheme featuring vibrant reds and yellows, Scarpulla says guests will find a friendly staff catering to what's usually "a very local crowd."
The Pond at GVR is "very intimate and not as crazy as some of the pools" around town, Scarpulla says.
But, she adds, "don't get me wrong: They're 21 and over, and they drink and dance, and the DJs are spinning and everyone's having fun in the sun."
Admission is open to those 21 and over, and Scarpulla says guests -- particularly area residents -- will find The Pond an affordable and fun way to spend the day.
"We have a very local crowd," she says, and "if you see our Pond, you're going to see a lot of the same people every week.
"Our whole goal is, we want locals to come and enjoy themselves without hurting their wallet. So we try to cater to them, and we have great specials and drink prices."
The entertainment mix always is evolving, Scarpulla says, and might include, for instance, loosing the occasional floating beer pong table into the pool.
Guests may enjoy poolside lunch and even partake of hookahs to accompany their pitchers of blackberry lemonade or something headier.
Daybeds and cabanas are available, and the musical background is provided by a roster of DJs spinning daily from noon to 5 p.m. The lineup includes DJ Dig Dug on Saturdays, DJ Mika Gold on Sundays and DJ Quira on Mondays.
Promotions include such offerings as bottles of Patron for $100 on Sundays, $75 bottles of Skyy and Bacardi and $20 "bottomless champagne" during Monday's industry-oriented pool party, and free margaritas for ladies from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesdays.
Saturdays at 6 p.m., the party at The Pond continues with "Endless Reggae Summer Saturdays," featuring live bands and a menu of $5 featured drinks.
Capacity is about 200, and there's never a cover charge, Scarpulla says.
Hours are from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. For cabana or daybed reservations, call 617-7744. For general information, call 617-7413.
