Heigl, Butler star in ‘Ugly Truth’

Movie: "The Ugly Truth"

When: Opening Friday at local theaters

Cast: Katherine Heigl, Gerard Butler

Director: Robert Luketic

The story: A chauvinistic correspondent for a morning TV show tests his outlandish relationship theories on a romantically challenged producer, leading to a clash of wills -- and more.

The buzz: On TV, Katherine Heigl slogs through heavy-duty (melo)drama in "Grey's Anatomy," but on the big screen, she likes to lighten up, following "Knocked Up" and "27 Dresses" with another comedic crowd-pleaser. Director Robert Luketic knows a bit about those, too, returning to the genre in which he scored his first hit, 2001's "Legally Blonde," after last year's lackluster made-in-Vegas blackjack caper "21."
