Here’s your Memorial Day Weekend primer
May 17, 2014 - 7:31 am
Do you wait until the last minute to make plans for Memorial Day weekend? I do, and I hate that about myself. So let’s look at the week ahead and consider ideas, starting with Chris Tucker.
Tucker performs May 24 at The Pearl at the Palms.
“We shot ‘Rush Hour 2’ there” in Las Vegas, he said on a call from his home in Atlanta on Thursday. “We had a good time in the old Desert Inn,” he said but didn’t elaborate.
Tucker was in 2012’s “Silver Linings Playbook.” He shot a stand-up movie coming out in a few months, and he’s touring America.
“I’ve been working on a new set in the comedy clubs,” he said. “It’s been great, getting back to my roots. In the clubs, you get smaller crowds and you get response immediately.”
KATHY GRIFFIN
Kathy Griffin performs stand-up Friday at The Mirage. She called me the other day. I told her my girlfriend and I loved her show at The Mirage last year.
“Do you miss me?” Griffin said.
“Can you please just move to Vegas already?” I said.
“I miss our connection,” she said. “There’s going to be a new show coming on HBO about threesomes. I heard you mention your girlfriend. I want you to know I’m in.”
Even on the phone, Griffin works it; that’s why I love her. Since Griffin is an entertainment news queen, I asked her if Jennifer Aniston really has a baby in her. Griffin answered with this breathless Kathy-ism:
“I don’t know, but I think it’s very funny to me that somebody like that is still alive. I mean, she’s not even on television, she’s not in movies, and she’s on magazines every week, and the boyfriend is a guy I don’t care about, now they’re trying to convince me he’s famous, he’s the Eddie Cibrian of movies, he’s not even famous, he’s more famous for being with her, and the kid, I guess they’re going to try to act like he’s the new version of the royal baby, what’s his name, Charlie? I don’t know. I don’t give a (expletive) about that kid.
“Warn your readers this show (at The Mirage) is not for the faint of heart. Don’t be bringing your (expletive) kids. Don’t be complaining about the swearing. It’s not Blue Man Group. It’s an evening of filth.”
Asked what she thinks about Memorial Day weekend, she cracked on my mispronunciation of David Guetta.
“First of all, Grandma, it’s David Geh-ta, not David Ghee-eh-tah. Way to go. Second of all, I’m sure there’s probably going to be a wild party; I am sure I will be invited to Puffy’s penthouse, or maybe Puffy will take over the Britney Spears penthouse at Planet Hollywood. I’m not on any party lists, I’ll tell you right now. I’ll probably go backstage and say hi to Cher.”
I’ll have a longer interview with Griffin next week.
