John Lennon’s boyhood focus of movie
October 13, 2010 - 11:00 pm
Movie: "Nowhere Boy"
When: Opening Friday at local theaters
Cast: Aaron Johnson, Kristin Scott Thomas, Anne-Marie Duff
Director: Sam Taylor-Wood
The story: From Strawberry Fields to Penny Lane, this account of John Lennon's youth focuses on his introduction to rock 'n' roll, his hardscrabble upbringing and the two women in his young life: his troubled mother Julia and his stern Aunt Mimi.
The buzz: Lennon would have turned 70 last week; in addition to his own movie appearances (in everything from "A Hard Day's Night" to "How I Won the War"), he has turned up in such biopics as "Backbeat" and "The Hours and Times." This drama, released in Britain late last year, already has earned awards for cast members Johnson, Duff and Scott Thomas.
