Kentucky Derby promotions set; Sam’s Town giving away $1.6 million

The Kentucky Derby is Saturday, and similar to other big events, many of the casino parties are invitation only. But there is still a lot of good action for everyone else, especially if you are placing a bet.

The South Point's Kentucky Derby party kicks off at 8 a.m. with free admission as well as free food and drink coupons with wagers.

Jerry's Nugget's celebration begins in the morning with free donuts and coffee followed by hand-carved "track sandwiches" from noon-4 p.m. They are free to "qualified bettors" and $4 to everyone else. Your first two $10 bets earn a commemorative glass and all $20 wagerers (on the casino's Horse Racing Matchup Parlay card) receive a special racing polo shirt.

Immediately after the race (post time is 3 p.m.), Arizona Charlie's Boulder will give away a digital photo frame, a $100 gasoline card and a $50 gasoline card. Everyone placing a $20 bet receives an entry.

Sam's Town is giving away $1.6 million during its "A-May-Zing May Cash Giveaway." At 8:15 p.m. every Friday and Saturday, the casino will draw 20 names, each of whom will have a chance to punch his way up to $10,000 cash. Entries can be earned at both the slots and tables, and players must be present at the drawings to win.

C.A.N. Club members earning 2,499 same-day points on Thursdays ($833 coin-in on slots, $1,250 coin-in on video poker; no point redemption required) at the Cannery will receive one seafood buffet and $20 in free play.

All this month, South Point players earning 800 points ($800 coin-in; no point redemption required) between Mondays and Thursdays will receive that week's special gift. The first week's award is a seven-piece margarita set, followed by a Hamilton Beach personal blender, a George Foreman Lean Mean Fat Grilling Machine and an Igloo summer cooler set. Players earning 800 points (Mondays-Thursdays) who give the Club their email address also will receive a coupon for a free 6-pack of Pepsi.
