Nicolas Cage is a dirty Vegas cop in ‘The Trust’ — VIDEO

Nicolas Cage recruited Jerry Lewis to play his father in the upcoming Vegas-based heist movie “The Trust,” despite the fact that there was no such role.

“Nic Cage came to us and said he’d just had dinner with Jerry and that he’d really love to work with him and have him play the dad,” Highland Film Group co-founder Arianne Fraser told The Hollywood Reporter. “So the filmmakers created a story arc for him.”

‘The Trust” marks an increasingly rare acting gig for Lewis, but unlike another Las Vegas institution, The Peppermill, he doesn’t appear in the movie’s first trailer.

Here’s the official description: “A dramatic comedy about Waters (Elijah Wood) and Stone (Nicolas Cage), two nobody police officers who work in the evidence room of the Las Vegas Police Department. When Stone discovers an unusually high bail receipt in connection to a drug bust, the two friends set in motion a plan to find the source of the money.”

“The Trust” debuts March 15 at South by Southwest in Austin, Texas, before heading to DirecTV in April and a limited theatrical release coinciding with its home-video debut May 13.
