Mrs. Hef: ‘I love when people come up and say hi’
Hugh Hefner’s wife has plans to tear it up Saturday at Rehab dayclub, and not just with her Playmate wiles. She’ll be DJing there Saturday and throughout the summer.
Crystal Harris Hefner isn’t new to music. She has been DJing at the Playboy Mansion for five years. Her 2013 music video, “Call the Cops,” was filmed at Sapphire strip club’s dayclub when she was a DJ there.
Here are six takeaways from my latest talk with her.
1. Six or seven years ago, Crystal Hefner partied “a bunch” at debaucherous Rehab in the Hard Rock Hotel, during her pre-Hefner single days.
“It was a lot of fun. The big DJ then was DJ Skribble,” Hefner said.
I said to her, “Back then, crazy stuff happened at Rehab.”
“I know! I was swimming around. After that, people were like, ‘You were in that water?’ ”
I told her not to listen to those water-weary party people; that’s what pool chemicals are for.
“So funny. But everyone has so much fun there,” She said. “They make the pool like an oasis.”
2. She is genuinely excited about this bikini contest. (“Real Housewives of Miami’s” Joanna Krupa will also be there with sister Marta.)
“Who doesn’t want to see hot girls in bikinis having a contest?” Hefner said.
What does a woman in a bikini have to do to get Hefner’s attention?
“I don’t know. I’m always around pretty girls in bikinis. So I’m kind of used to it.”
3. Hefner has Playmate vision: She can spot a future Playmate at first sight.
“I’m always approached by girls, asking how to get into Playboy. I always direct them to the right place to submit their photos. By now, I can tell if a girl can make the cut for Playboy or not.”
4. Hefner studied psychology at San Diego State University.
“Psychology has helped me in life,” she said. “It’s helped me understand people more.
“And when I first met Hef, we were talking about school, because I was just finishing at San Diego State. I said I was a psych major. It turns out he was too. We had that in common.”
But professional therapy wasn’t her bag.
“I didn’t want to be a psychologist and have the office thing. I don’t know if I’m one of those people who can help people or take on the responsibility.”
5. She sees her husband as a good guy, obviously.
“Hef is really a nice person. He’s humble. He’s such a sweet, kind person,” she said. “We have a lot of fun together.”
What have they done for fun lately?
“We had an Easter party,” she said. “Easter is where all the kids are invited, so all the Playmates, current and past Playmates, they all bring their children, and we have a huge Easter egg hunt, and we give away prizes to people that got the most eggs.
“We had somebody in an Easter bunny costume going around. We had a photo booth. We have farm animals that come in, like a petting zoo. We had an alligator.”
What is the psych profile of a Playmate’s child?
“They’re all really sweet kids. It just depends. All the girls are different. All the kids are very respectful, and so nice, and happy to be at the mansion.”
6. She truly wants people to approach her at Rehab, which may partly explain why I hear hotel behind-the-scenes people like her. Approachability is eternally more desirable than the opposite at Las Vegas events.
“I love when people come up and say ‘hi.’ Last time, I got so many comments saying, ‘I saw you in Vegas but I didn’t come up and say ‘hi,’ ” she said.
“I always tell everybody, ‘Come up and say hi. Let’s take a picture.’ I think I wrote on Instagram, ‘Hope to see you there, let’s take a selfie.’ So that would be fun!”
