One of Disney’s oldest characters found in Norway

One of Walt Disney’s oldest creations, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, has been resurrected from a library vault.

Before the discovery, only 25 seconds of Empty Socks, a Disney cartoon featuring Oswald, existed. But archivists at Norway’s Nation Library have found an almost complete version of the film.

“At the beginning, we didn’t know it was a lost cinematographic treasure,” said Kjetil Kvale Soerenssen, an archivist at the library. “The film was in two reels which weren’t clearly labeled.”

The film has about 30 to 60 seconds missing of the original 5 minutes and 30 seconds, NPR reports.

A digitized copy has been sent to The Walt Disney Co.
