Palms closes Moon nightclub after nine years of Mooning

One of the Palms’ signature night spots is over, done, kaput. The Palms made the announcement Wednesday evening in an email.

“After nine successful years, Palms Casino Resort has decided to close Moon Nightclub to make way for a new nightlife concept. Until then, the venue will be available for private functions and special events,” the hotel announced.

Moon sits atop Fantasy Tower, surveying all of the Las Vegas valley from the 53rd floor.

There were moments when Moon was a top club destination associated in our minds to the former Playboy Club atop the hotel tower. Various famous people have been there, as various famous people have been to all major clubs.

Nine years was a good run. Reason One: Clubs live dog years, so nine years for a Vegas club is like 63 years in candy shop years. Reason Two: The Palms was a ghost town in the hard years of the recession, as most clubs were. Reason Three: Longtime club launcher N9NE Group went through a lot of legal and nasty problems. Reason Four: Moon arose when there was less competition, no Cosmopolitan, and more George Maloof.

Adios, Moon. Some of us will retain decent memories of late Moon nights.
