Thomas the Tank Engine to be chugging along in Boulder City
April 12, 2012 - 1:04 am
Children who are fans of Thomas the Tank Engine can see and ride along with their hero during "Day Out with Thomas" Saturday and Sunday and April 21 and 22 at the Nevada Southern Railway depot at 600 Yucca St. in Boulder City.
In addition to the full-size Thomas, the event will feature his friend Sir Topham Hatt. Train rides will be offered every 45 minutes from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sunday and April 21 and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 22. Children also can enjoy storytelling, watch "Thomas and Friends" videos, get temporary tattoos, listen to live music and other entertainment as well as play games and visit the gift shop.
Thomas' appearance also is a good opportunity to tell people about the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Boulder City and explain how railroads contributed to the state's history, said Chuck Brandt, president of the Friends of the Southern Nevada Railway, which is sponsoring the event.
"The Friends group has worked so hard to bring such a fun event to Nevada. We are incredibly grateful to them for the support they give us and the time they invest in keeping the rail stories alive," said Peter Barton, administrator of the Nevada Division of Museums and History.
The "Day Out with Thomas" program has operated for nearly two decades on tourist railways and at railroad museums worldwide.
Tickets are $18 for ages 2 and older and can be purchased online at www.ticketweb.com/dowt, by calling 866-468-7630 or from the museum ticket office from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Advance purchase is recommended and passengers are asked to arrive one hour in advance of their scheduled ride.
