Tobey Maguire among stars of ‘Brothers’

Movie: "Brothers"
When: Opening Friday at local theaters
Cast: Tobey Maguire, Jake Gyllenhaal, Natalie Portman
Director: Jim Sheridan
The story: When his older brother goes missing in action in Afghanistan, a young man comforts his brother’s wife and children.
The buzz: If the setup sounds a bit familiar, you must be a foreign-film buff; this movie’s based on Danish writer-director Susanne Bier’s 2004 acclaimed original (co-written with frequent collaborator Anders Thomas Jensen), which captured numerous awards, including an audience award at 2005’s Sundance Film Festival and acting accolades for stars Connie Nielsen and Ulrich Thomsen. But the remake also features a buzz-worthy supporting cast, led by Sam Shepard, Mare Winningham, Clifton Collins Jr. and Carey Mulligan, who should be a star — and, let’s hope, will be an Oscar nominee for her standout performance in "An Education."
