99 Words About … ‘Ray Donovan’s’ family problems

“You’re a bagman for movie stars. You’re also an extortionist and a wiretapper. Basically, you’re an all-around piece of (excrement).”

The words, directed at the title character of “Ray Donovan” (9 p.m. Sunday, Showtime), suggest a more riveting drama.

It’s at its best when Ray (Liev Schreiber) is fixing the problems of L.A.’s rich and famous. A genuine badass, he’ll find the perfect jukebox song to soundtrack a bar fight.

Too often, though, Ray’s dragged into the interminable drama of his dysfunctional family, usually his dad (Jon Voight), who, in the second-season premiere, converses with a CGI dolphin. Seriously.
