Las Vegas man with 132-pound scrotum to appear on cable TV special
A Las Vegas man who suffered from a rare medical condition that caused his scrotum to swell to over 130 pounds will appear in a cable televison documentary later this month.
The extraordinary tale of Wesley Warren Jr. will be told in “The Man With the 132-Pound Scrotum,” on TLC on August 19, the cable channel announced this week.
Warren, a New York City native who moved to Las Vegas in the 1990s, was a victim of one of the most severe cases of scrotal lymphedema doctors have seen. Though Warren claims he bumped his testicles in bed and woke up to a scrotum “the size of a soccer ball” in 2008, doctors have not been able to explain what caused his condition.
When Warren talked to the Review-Journal in 2011, he was struggling to get around and to hide the mass between his legs, which had grown to over 100 lbs. Warren took to wearing a full-sized hooded sweatshirt over his legs and groin, and always carried a milk crate and pillow to set his scrotum on when he needed to rest. His inability to direct his urination or have sex were problems not so easily solved.
Despite his everyday difficulties, Warren achieved a modicum of celebrity due to his condition, appearing on “The Howard Stern Show” and Comedy Central’s “Tosh.0,” drumming up international attention to his plight.
Earlier this year, he found relief. Dr. Joel Gelman, who heads the Center for Reconstructive Urology at the University of California, Irvine, headed up a team of physicians who donated their expertise and operated on Warren. It took nearly 13 hours on the operating table, but the doctors were able to successfully remove the 132-pound growth.
The TLC special will document Warren’s entire journey, from the day-to-day struggles to the potentially life-saving operation he underwent in California.
