Unconventional: A look at Las Vegas conventions

Earlier this year hundreds of fans of the show “My Little Pony Friendship is Magic” came to the Riviera for the Las Pegasus Unicon convention. The demographic was different from what you might expect: most of the attendees were men. The cartoon, which chronicles the exploits of ponies such as Twilight Sparkle, Rainbow Dash and Pinkie Pie, has gained a following of adult males known as “bronies.”
Brony Shane Gray was skeptical of the show at first. “It just starts out with watching one, and then another, and then another, and then another, and you find yourself finished with the first season and you’re like, “this is outstanding, this is brilliant, I love this.” That’s when the fandom starts catching on.”
The fandom goes beyond just watching the show. The convention included costumes, sing-alongs, original artwork and live music. All with a “My Little Pony” theme.
