APPETIZERS: Tranquility mixes with high energy in Kabuki’s modern Japanese bistro

The interior of Kabuki Japanese Restaurant is calming and energizing, with a black-and-red color scheme accented by natural woods and curving touches seen everywhere from the bar top to the walls.

That same mixture of calm and energy extends to Kabuki's menu, which features variations on a sushi theme and drinks both traditional and ultramodern.

Kabuki, which opened July Fourth weekend at 6605 Las Vegas Blvd. South, Suite 147, at Town Square, is the California-based chain's first Southern Nevada location. It is described by Kabuki Marketing Director Young Kim as a "very casual, full-service Japanese restaurant" that's "not overly trendy or overly traditional."

It's also family friendly, offering an entire children's menu -- including games to keep kids busy before dinner -- that features sesame chicken for $6.50, and a beginner's-style sushi platter of rolls containing cooked ingredients for $7.50.

The restaurant seats 206 at a sushi bar and in its dining room. The restaurant opens 11 a.m. daily and closes 10:30 p.m. Mondays through Thrusdays, 11:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturday and 10 p.m. Sundays.
