Neurologist to pay $1 million to settle fraud case

A Las Vegas neurologist has agreed to pay the government $1 million to settle civil health care fraud allegations, U.S. Attorney for Nevada Daniel Bogden announced Monday.

In a news release, Bogden said the government had alleged that Dr. Gobinder S. Chopra made improper billings to Medicare from August 2004 through May 2010. He was accused of billing critical-care codes for non-critical-care services.

The agreement allows the physician to pay the debt over five years.

The case was investigated by the Office of the Inspector General for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
