Apartment fire blamed on plastic container used for ashtray

An accidental apartment fire that displaced 25 people Thursday night was caused after a plastic container was used as an ashtray, Las Vegas Fire Department investigators said.
The blaze caused $750,000 in damage to a 16-unit building at Ashford Manor Apartments, 2320 Tucumcari Drive, near West Smoke Ranch Road and North Jones Boulevard.
The fire was fanned by 20-30 mph winds and took three hours to control.
There were no reported injuries. The American Red Cross is assisting the people who lived in the building.
