Coroner identifies moped rider killed in Monday crash

The Clark County coroner’s office has identified the scooter driver killed in a crash Monday night in the northwest valley.

He is Evan Michael Thompson, a 20-year-old Las Vegan. Thompson died at University Medical Center shortly after arrival, Las Vegas police said.

Thompson was riding a Remax 50 sports scooter about 9:30 p.m. in a construction zone with restricted lanes at the intersection of Grand Teton Drive and Cimarron Road, police said.

The driver of a 2009 Nissan Maxima was heading east on Grand Teton and making a left turn onto Cimarron. Thompson, who was heading west on Grand Teton, tried avoiding the Maxima at the intersection, police said.

Thompson was thrown from the scooter, which slid underneath the right side of the sedan, police said. He suffered critical injuries.

The 35-year-old woman driving the Maxima talked with police during the investigation.

This was the 41st traffic-related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction.
