Dining pick of the week: Damiano’s Pizza

PICK OF THE WEEK:

DAMIANO'S PIZZA

2775 S. Nellis Blvd. at Vegas Valley Drive, 476-5222

If you have a feeling this pizza is going to be pretty good because the person making it is named Damiano, trust your feeling. This family-owned pizzeria has a series of specials where no coupons are needed. The carry-out large pizza with one topping is $6.95, and three extra-large pizzas with one topping each, along with 40 wings and two 2-liters of soda, is $54. All the traditional toppings are available, but the fun is found in the specialty pizzas, such as Hawaiian (ham, pineapple, extra cheese), Meat Lovers and the vegetarian, loaded with mushrooms, green peppers, tomatoes, black olives, onions and extra cheese. The Focaccia is tomato, garlic, basil and mozzarella, while Damiano's Special is pepperoni, sausage, ham, mushrooms, green peppers, onions, black olives, pineapple and tomatoes. You will also find wings and chicken fingers that can be ordered from eight to 40 pieces with mild, medium, hot, teriyaki or barbecue sauce. Several appetizers are stuffed jalapenos, garlic knots, mozzarella sticks, onion rings, zucchini sticks and breaded mushrooms. The house calzone is made with mozzarella and ricotta, plus two toppings. Calzones start at $10, and a small order of wings is $5.95. Damiano's Pizza is open daily at 11 a.m. - Jack Bulavsky
