Downtown Las Vegas lunch crowd favors flavor over expediency at The Goodwich

The Goodwich — a new and relatively unassuming sandwich shop on the first floor of Soho Lofts on the corner of Hoover Avenue and Las Vegas Boulevard — rests snuggly on the edge of the 18b Arts District, downtown Las Vegas and the Historic John S. Park and Huntridge neighborhoods. It seems to draw customers from all of those places, plus more.

The menu features a variety of standard sandwiches with little twists to make them different, such as the Hawkeye, a crispy pork sandwich with green chile ketchup, and the Egg Salad, which includes chorizo, pickled onion, chip bits and curry. The prices run from about $4 to $10, and you can stack your sandwich with extras such as avocado, bacon and fried chicken skin for a $1 or two more.

The lunch and dinner menu includes a Pig o’the Week, with a specialty sandwich only available for that week.

There are happy hour specials from 3 to 6 p.m. daily with smaller fare such as Sliders and Chips & Fish. Goodwich is in the process of getting a beer and wine license, but for the time being, the happy hour is limited to food, not alcoholic libations.

In a more funky and functional aesthetic, the dining area features metal furniture and high ceilings with artfully exposed duct work. The word of mouth is good on the flavor of the food, but it is more of an artisan process than an assembly line. The food comes out a little slower than a chain sandwich shop, but most of the patrons seem to feel it’s worth the wait.

Goodwich is open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and 8 a.m. to 10 p.m Saturdays and Sundays. Call 702-910-8681 or visit thegoodwich.com.
