Flippin’ Good Burgers brings fast-food with fresh flavor to downtown

Flippin' Good Burgers and Shakes might sound like your typical fast-food joint, but with a bar with beer on tap and a menu made fresh to order, downtown Las Vegas' latest dining debut is setting itself apart.

Located in a spacious spot at 505 E. Fremont St. next to Inspire, Flippin' Good features burgers made from USDA choice 100 percent Angus ground with chuck, brisket and short rib. All of the burgers are hand-pattied fresh daily and served on locally baked potato buns. Prices range from $4.35 for a single patty burger to $6.45 for a double. Burger choices include The Flame (lettuce, tomato, grilled jalapenos, Flippin' Sauce and melted pepperjack cheese) and The Farm Burger (fried egg, smoked bacon, ketchup and melted American cheese).

If red meat isn't your thing, there are also chicken sandwiches (crispy or grilled) and a turkey burger ($3.95) on the menu. The Crispy Chicken Sandwich ($3.75) comes with lettuce, tomato, pickle and mayo, while the grilled version ($4.65) ditches the pickle and adds melted Swiss chesese.

Curiously, there was no veggie burger on the menu, but the website advises that vegetarian options are coming soon.

You can pair your burger or sandwich with hand-cut french fries ($1.95); cheese fries ($3.55) with melted American and cheddar cheese; fresh-cut onion rings ($2.95); or the Flippin' Fries ($3.95), which come with grilled onion, Flippin' Sauce (which is a creamy, Russian dressing-like concoction) and melted American and cheddar cheese. The Flippin' Fries can also be made spicy ($4.25) with the addition of grilled jalapenos and melted pepperjack.

Save room for a frozen custard milkeshake, blended float or concrete. The milkshakes ($4.25 for 16 ounces or $5.95 for 24 ounces) come in flavors of huckleberry, strawberry, pineapple, chocolate, banana or peanut butter, and can be made malted for an additional 50 cents. Blended floats ($2.85 to $3.95) feature Root Beer, Purple Cow or Orange Cream choices. If you're up for it, I recommend a concrete ($3.45 to $6.45), with choices of Mom's Apple Pie (vanilla custard with fresh baked apple pie); Macadamia Crunch (vanilla custard with fresh baked macadamia nut cookies and Ghiradelli white chocolate sauce); Banana Monkey (vanilla custard with banana, peanut butter and Ghiradelli chocolate sauce); and Brownie Delight (vanilla custard with fresh baked brownie and Ghiradelli chocolate sauce).

You can also create your own concrete for $2.45 for 8 ounces (and 50 cents per mix-in) to $4.45 for 16 ounces (and $1 per mix-in).

This place was pretty packed at weekday lunch time the week after its grand opening, but there is plenty of seating inside, including a bar in the back that has cold draught beer ($4.75 to $6.75), with Bud Light, Goose Island IPA, Banger Brown Ale and Wasatch Pumpkin Ale offered. A variety of flavored wine coolers ($2.95) are also available at the bar (alcohol is for dine-in customers only).

If you're dining solo, you'll find plenty of flatscreen TVs for entertainment if the people-watching along Fremont Street doesn't offer enough distraction for you.

Flippin' Good Burgers and Shakes is open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 3 a.m. Friday and Saturday and noon to 10 p.m. Sunday.
