A man is in critical condition after an early morning crash in western Las Vegas.
Metropolitan Police Department Lt. Daniel Alvarado said a “significant injury” crash closed Fort Apache Road in both directions between Lake South Drive and West Desert Inn Road about 4:30 a.m. The street has reopened.
Investigators said a 62-year-old man driving a 1983 Chevrolet pickup truck crashed into the rear end of a sedan on Fort Apache. The pickup left the road and continued until it struck a tree, police said.
The driver of the pickup was taken to University Medical Center with critical injuries. Police suspect he was impaired at the time of the crash.
The driver of the sedan, a 26-year-old woman, only suffered minor injuries and was not hospitalized.
Metro’s fatal detail responded due to the severity of the man’s injuries. As of 1:40 p.m. Friday the man was still in critical condition.
