Flash flood warning for Anthem, Spring Mountains
Flash floods with four feet of water hit the Harris Springs area of Mount Charleston Friday, but have not reached Kyle Canyon Road, according to Las Vegas police spokesman Bill Cassell.
Firefighters in the area have had to move to higher ground according to Great Basin Incident Commander Rich Harvey.
Along with at least 14 cars stranded near Eldorado Valley Drive and Highway 165 due to flooded roadways, two flash flood warnings were issued for the Las Vegas Valley, according to the National Weather Service.
One was issued for the Anthem area until 2:30 p.m. where there was some intersection flooding. Almost 1.7 inches of rainfall was recorded.
The other flash flood warning was for the Spring Mountains, which received two inches of rain Friday afternoon. The warning was set until 3:15 p.m. and impacted portions of the Carpenter 1 Fire area near Harris Springs Canyon.
The storms brought cooler temperatures to the valley, with a high on Friday of 93 degrees. The skies cleared up late afternoon.
The weather service predicts a high of 96 degrees on Saturday, with more possible storms over Mount Charleston and southern Henderson.
