Las Vegas officials simplify rules for business licenses

Getting a business license in Las Vegas could get simpler under new city rules that recently went into effect.

On Tuesday city officials detailed the first phase of an effort to cut red tape by reducing the number of licenses a business needs to operate.

Under the new rules, businesses will no longer have to track sales and pay bills under multiple licenses, according to the city. Instead, they can consolidate licenses into one primary license and pay one bill.

For example, a business with sales, accessory sales and clothing sales licenses could consolidate into one license.

City officials say the move will help as many as 5,500 businesses and reduce the number of different business licenses from 387 to 241.
