Two men indicted in death of 74-year-old woman

Two men accused in the death of a woman after an unapproved medical procedure in August have been indicted on murder charges, prosecutors said Wednesday.

Cody Blake Stoneking, 50, and Karl Albert Bachman, 56, each face one count of second-degree murder of a victim older than 60, practicing homeopathic medicine without a valid license, engaging as a physician, physician assistant, perfusionist or practitioner of respiratory care without a valid license, along with battery charges.

On Aug. 12, Kim Chun Ji Wang Liu, 74, of Mesa, Ariz., died at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, Metro said in October. The Clark County coroner’s office contacted police and it was determined that her death came after an unapproved procedure.

Both Stoneking and Bachman are being held at the Clark County Detention Center.

The coroner said Liu’s death was a homicide, and that she died from brain-stem infractions, an embolism and cardiovascular disease.

Stoneking and Bachman claimed to be doctors, Metro said, but their names did not come up in a search with the Nevada State Board of Medical Examiners in October.

It is unclear what the procedure was and where it was performed.
