Fatal crash shuts down 2-lane stretch US-93 in Arizona

The highway connecting Phoenix to Las Vegas is shut down after a head-on crash that killed two people on Thursday morning, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

Authorities were called to U.S Highway 93 about 8:30 a.m., department spokesman Bart Graves said. The crash happened about 250 miles south of Las Vegas, between the Arizona towns of Wikieup and Wickenburg.

A white passenger vehicle heading south on the two-lane highway crossed into the northbound lane and hit a Toyota SUV head-on, Graves said.

The highway is shut down in both directions and was projected to reopen about noon, Graves said.

A man in the SUV and a woman in the other vehicle were killed, Graves said. It wasn’t immediately known if there were any other injuries.
