Warm, sunny Christmas in store for Las Vegas Valley

Updated December 22, 2017 - 8:13 pm

Temperatures across the Las Vegas Valley are set to rise through Christmas, according to the National Weather Service.

Saturday’s forecast high is 56 degrees with light winds that will last through Sunday afternoon. Sunday’s forecast high is 61 degrees, the weather service said.

Christmas Day should warm up to 63 degrees, about 7 degrees above normal for this time of year, the weather service said.

Clouds are likely to linger on Christmas morning, but the thick cloud cover expected over the weekend should clear out by Monday afternoon.

Overnight temperatures should stay between 37 and 44 degrees through , the weather service said.

A dry Saturday is expected to tie the record, set in 1944, for the longest dry spell — 101 days — in Las Vegas history, the weather service said. The weather service said it’s likely the drought will continue through Christmas Eve, which would mean a new drought record — 102 days without rain.

It’s likely the dry streak will continue throughout next week, stretching the record even further, the weather service said.
