Clerk dies of gunshot wounds

A convenience store clerk who was shot in the face earlier this year by a robber died this week.

Steve Inman, 60, of Las Vegas, was shot July 11 despite complying with the robbers' demands. There was less than $100 in the register, Las Vegas police have said.

Inman previously had retired, but he took a job at the Green Valley Grocery Store, at 4011 N. Lamb Blvd. near Alexander Road, to earn money for his wife's cancer treatments. The couple had planned to move to Washington state in August because that's where her preferred doctor practices, Inman's aunt, Judy Huddleston, said.

But Teresa Inman refused to leave her husband's side after he was shot. She put her cancer treatment on hold and would not go to Washington without him, Huddleston said.

She died two weeks ago, Huddleston said.

Steve Inman spent months in a coma, but he was conscious when his wife died.

"I think he just gave up after that," Huddleston said.

Inman died at Health South Rehabilitation Hospital about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, she said.

Police allege that 28-year-old Deonte Marshall shot Inman. On Nov. 15, Marshall pleaded not guilty to six felony charges related to the shooting and the robbery of the convenience store. A prosecutor at that time said she expected to change one of the charges to murder if Inman died.
