Fire destroys abandoned Henderson casino

A shuttered Henderson casino burned down Tuesday evening, and investigators were checking reports that homeless people might have been caught in the blaze, the Henderson Fire Department said.

Battalion Chief Jeff Lytle said firefighters were called to the Alystra Casino building, 333 W. Sunset Road, near Boulder Highway, about 6:48 p.m. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered a building engulfed in flames.

The Alystra Casino had been abandoned for a decade, but firefighters were told there might have been homeless people inside, Lytle said.

Investigators had not determined whether those reports were accurate by late Tuesday, Lytle said. Investigators also hadn't established the cause of the blaze.

Lytle said the building was a total loss, but he didn't have an estimate on the financial damages related to the fire.
