New thinner look for Mayweather

Judging from his thin appearance, boxing champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. won't be dishing out any four-star ratings for the jail food he saw during his two months behind bars.

A source who saw Mayweather a day after his release from the Clark County Detention Center said he was shocked by the weight loss.

"I didn't recognize him," the source said. "He looks thinner, especially in the face."

Mayweather's lawyers and personal physician had warned the undefeated boxer's health and boxing future might be a risk if he wasn't allowed to serve out the remainder of his 90-day sentence at home.

The unsuccessful bid for his freedom came 12 days into Mayweather's 90-day incarceration. He was released 60 days after entering jail June 1. Mayweather's physician, Dr. Robert Voy, expressed concern after conducting a June 8 physical that Mayweather, 35, might not be able to recover entirely because of the damage done to his physique.

He weighed 151 pounds for his May 5 super welterweight title fight against champion Miguel Cotto.

Mayweather, 43-0, made a flashy appearance at his gym Friday, driving up in a new Lamborghini Aventador. It was clear from numerous photographs on the Internet that he had allowed his hair to grow while in jail.

LINEUP SET FOR 'VEGAS ELITE'

Poker star Jennifer Harman and Amy Hanley, the daughter of the late mob hitman Tom Hanley, have reportedly made the cut for the upcoming TV reality show tentatively titled "Vegas Elite."

Filming for the TLC series starts Aug. 20, with the show debuting in December.

The rest of the cast includes Lana Fuchs, Lori Montoya and Alicia Jacobs.

The Russian-born Fuchs is a fashion designer, Montoya is owner and co-founder of Las Vegas-based Rain Cosmetics, and Jacobs has worked as a local TV entertainment reporter for KSNV-TV, Channel 3, and KTNV-TV, Channel 13, along with CNN and Headline News.

On a radio show last week, Jacobs said her return to KTNV began last month with her coverage of Wayne Newton's legal battle over his Casa de Shenadoah being converted into a Graceland-like attraction.

BIG BREAK FOR HOWARD

Rising radio sports host Paul Howard has caught a big break.

Starting Aug. 20, he will be teaming up with nationally syndicated sports talk host J.T. the Brick for a one-hour weekday show (4 to 5 p.m.) on KBAD-AM 920 (Fox Sports Radio).

Howard will continue his role on "Gridlock" (11 a.m. to 2 p.m) with Seat Williams and Las Vegas Review-Journal columnist Ed Graney on ESPN affiliate KWWN 1100 AM/98.9 FM.

"I've wanted to work with Pauly because he's one of the best talents I've heard in a long time," said J.T. the Brick, whose real name is John Tournour. "I want to be a mentoring influence. I want to help Pauly get to the next level," he added. "I've been doing this for 16 years, and I want to pay it forward."

Howard said he's "honored and grateful" for Tournour's interest. "He's going to make me better. He's in over 250 markets. He's a powerful guy in the industry, and I'm grateful he's going to do this."

Tournour, the only Las Vegas-based nationally syndicated sports host, does an overnight show for Fox Sports Radio from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m.

Tournour was living in Las Vegas when he won Jim Rome's inaugural "Smack-Off" in 1995 for best caller on Rome's show. The former stockbroker has been on Fox Sports Radio for eight years, partnering with Tomm Looney.

Tournour, who moved back to Las Vegas two years ago, recently sold his book "The Hand-Off," an inspirational memoir about his time with best friend and mentor Andrew Ashwood, who died of cancer in 2008. Ashwood was Tournour's boss at Fox.
