Slain Reno professor’s family files lawsuit
RENO -- The family of a university faculty member who was found stabbed to death last month, has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the man accused in her killing, his wife and their business.
Mohamad Klam Kamalaudeen, known locally as Rickey Barge, is in custody in Mexico while U.S. authorities work on his extradition to face murder charges in Washoe County.
He is accused of killing Calder on Aug. 18 and driving her body to Elko County, where she was found by hunters. Kamalaudeen was a business associate of the Calders.
Cal Dunlap, a lawyer representing Calder's husband and daughter, James and Kimberly Calder, filed the suit in Washoe District Court seeking damages in excess of $10,000 for the pain and suffering they've endured because of Judy Calder's death, the Reno Gazette-Journal reported Saturday.
It also states that Kamalaudeen and his wife, Maharul Afrose Muhamed Ayube, were using aliases to hide their criminal histories.
The suit also states that their business, Imaging Technologies, is a Nevada corporation and is liable because it "failed to investigate the background of, the stability of and the criminal history of the Barge defendant, and negligently hired him, knowing that they knew little about him other than the he was not who he purported to be."
