A 35-year-old man wanted in connection with allegations he tortured a 41-year-old woman in Fresno, Calif., was arrested in North Las Vegas on Tuesday by the Nevada Fugitive Investigative Strike Team.
Jarmaine Doubs was wanted by the Fresno Police Department for attempted homicide, assault with a deadly weapon, robbery, terrorist threats and kidnapping, resulting from an incident on June 17, according to the U.S. Marshals, who led the strike team.
Doubs and two of his relatives were accused of attempting to murder Elaine Neal because they believed her son, Jason Jynes, was responsible for the death of another of Doubs' family members. When Doubs and his accomplices couldn't find Jynes, they allegedly went after Neal.
According to authorities, Doubs and his accomplices tortured Neal for more than a day, beating her with boards, bottles and a baseball bat and then burning her with cigarettes. The suspects reportedly stuffed her in a trunk and took her to a canal, where Neal escaped. She was caught and beaten with a handgun, authorities said. She played dead until they left.
On June 22, Veronique Miles, 21, and Shakeenah Packard, 20, surrendered in Fresno.
Police recently learned Doubs might be in the valley. They found him in the 2700 block of Columbia Court, near Cheyenne Avenue and Van Der Meer Street, according to U.S. Marshals.
Doubs was arrested without incident and booked into the Clark County Detention Center with bail set at $1.5 million. He awaits extradition to California.
