Two-alarm fire damages home in Summerlin

It took the Las Vegas Fire Department an hour to put out a two-alarm house fire Tuesday afternoon near Rampart Boulevard and Vegas Drive.

Crews received calls about 4:30 p.m. from neighbors concerned about heavy amounts of smoke coming from the house at 1517 Champion Hills Lane, according to Las Vegas Fire Department official Tim Szymanski.

No one was home at the time of the fire. Szymanski said the blaze had been burning for “a considerable amount of time” by the time crews were called.

When firefighters first entered the house they found the fire burning in the attic, but soon had to evacuate once the second floor began to collapse.

Parts of the second floor collapsed and landed into the kitchen and other parts of the downstairs area.

With such intense conditions inside the house, firefighters were forced to fight the flames from outside the 8,600-square-foot home in Tournament Hills in Summerlin.

An engine will remain on the scene to keep an eye out on hot spots.

Investigation of the fire is ongoing and no damages have been determined.
