Golden Boy to host free fight card Friday at Toshiba Plaza

T-Mobile Arena’s first boxing card isn’t until Saturday. But the property where the 20,000-seat building sits will get a taste of the fight game today.

The 3 p.m. weigh-in for Saturday’s Canelo Alvarez-Amir Khan fight will be outdoors at Toshiba Plaza, the three-acre area that leads to T-Mobile. After the weigh-in, which is free to the public, Golden Boy Promotions will host a card at 4 p.m. in which lightweight Petr Petrov meets Marvin Quintero in the 10-round main event for Quintero’s North American Boxing Federation title.

Fans who attend the weigh-in may stay for the card at no charge.

“We have to win this fight, and we will be ready for anything else that comes after,” Petrov said. “This will get us the NABF title and get me ranked in the WBC, so this is the next step to getting closer to a world title.”

Petrov (36-4-2, 17 knockouts) last fought April 3, 2015, winning a 10-round unanimous decision over Gamaliel Diaz in Corona, California. Quintero (28-6 24 KOs) last fought Sept. 18, 2015, when he knocked out Jeffrey Fontanez in the fifth round in Los Angeles.

“He is a good boxer,” Petrov said. “He is a southpaw who has a lot of experience. He is a slick fighter, but I am experienced as well, and I am ready for anything.”
