Former 51s pitcher named NL’s top rookie

On May 1, Jacob deGrom pitched 5 1/3 innings against the Reno Aces at Cashman Field, allowing six hits and an earned run while walking one and striking out five to improve his record to 4-0, and lower his earned-run average to 1.89.
On May 13, after appearing in one more road game for Las Vegas, he was recalled by the New York Mets.
On Monday night, Jacob deGrom was named National League Rookie of the Year. He started 22 games for New York and led NL rookies in strikeouts (144) and ERA (2.69).
So the next time the 51s run an ad about “catching tomorrow’s big league stars tonight” or whatever, perhaps you should take them at their word.
