Pitcher hits, kills bird with pitch
July 7, 2014 - 8:51 pm
A pitcher for the minor league West Michigan Whitecaps hit and killed a bird with a pitch on Sunday during a game with the Fort Wayne TinCaps.
It was caught on video and even threw the broadcasters off their game.
“Is that a bird on the field? What is that?” one of the broadcasters said right after the pitch.
In the video, you can see the bird flying in from the left just as the pitcher lets the ball go. The bird collides right with the ball and flops to the ground to the right of home plate.
The commotion brought the game to a halt for a moment while the groundskeeper retrieved the bird from the field.
