Poker pro Daniel Colman leads WSOP Main Event at Day 5 dinner break
Daniel Colman, one of the winningest poker players of all time, unofficially leads the World Series of Poker’s $10,000 buy-in No-limit Texas Hold ’em World Championship at the dinner break Saturday.
Colman had 7.995 million chips when action paused on Day 5 at the Rio Convention Center with 127 players remaining. Play continued late Saturday and resumes Sunday afternoon with Day 6.
Colman, who pocketed $15.3 million for his victory in the WSOP’s Big One for One Drop event in 2014, started the afternoon session in second place and was the first to crack the 8-million-chip mark when he knocked out two-time bracelet winner Dan Heimiller of Las Vegas.
Canada’s Michael Niwinski (7.335 million) and Griffin Benger (7.08 million) are second and third, respectively, followed by Vojtech Ruzicka (6.905 million) of the Czech Republic and Australian James Obst (6.340 million).
Professional poker player Bryan Piccioli, who opened Day 5 with the chip lead, fell down the chip counts and was unofficially in 30th place at the break.
