The mother of a 4-year-old Northern California boy is happy her son is home safe after he jumped out of a moving car that was stolen from outside his home.
With the exception of some cuts on his feet and knees, the boy, Peyton Phan, is all right, KCRA said. Officers with the Stockton Police Department are still looking for the car, a Honda Civic with license plate number 7EDX752.
“I load up my car, I turn around, try to say goodbye to my mother-in-law and tell all the other kids to get into the car to leave to go home — and out of nowhere, that guy just took off in the car,” his mother, Hahn Tran told KCRA. “And my sister-in-law was like, ‘The car. The car.’”
Peyton had climbed into the car right before the man took off with it. A neighbor standing next to his truck saw the car speed by, then saw Peyton jump out.
“The guy turned the corner here, and as soon as he turned the corner, the door opened and the little kid (jumped) out and hit the fence right there,” Lawrence Collins said.
Peyton’s parents are praising his bold move for safety, but Stockton police warned against leaving your car running, especially with children inside.
