Albertsons opens in Summerlin
September 2, 2007 - 9:00 pm
Summerlin now features three major grocery stores with the opening of its second Albertsons, which is the chain's 42nd store in the Las Vegas Valley.
It is located on the northeast corner of Desert Foothills Drive and West Charleston Boulevard and anchors The Vista Commons, a new shopping center in The Vistas Village.
The store opened Aug. 22 at an early-morning ribbon-cutting ceremony that included Las Vegas Mayor Oscar B. Goodman, Las Vegas City Councilman Steve Wolfson, executives from The Howard Hughes Corp. and Albertsons executives.
According to Kevin Orrock, top division executive of Howard Hughes, Summerlin's developer, the new Albertsons is the first retail store west of Interstate 215, the Las Vegas Beltway, in Summerlin.
"Vista Commons is an intimate shopping center designed expressly for those who live in the immediate area," Orrock said. "It features Tuscan-style architecture consistent with the theme of The Vistas Village, and it features premium quality foods many in the Summerlin community expect and appreciate. We are proud to be home to such a beautiful new grocery store that will serve our residents well. Albertsons has always been a great community partner."
According to Tony Prey, group store director for Albertsons, considerable time and effort went into the planning for this store via focus groups and consumer feedback.
"Our premium fresh offerings are a direct result of that research," he said. "We expect residents in the area will truly appreciate the extras featured here. When a neighborhood store meets the needs of the surrounding area, it becomes an integral piece of the community. We fully expect this store to be just that -- a place where neighbors can shop in a relaxed and friendly environment."
More than 100 shoppers waited to enter the store after Goodman cut the ribbon and toasted the crowd and the new store with "pretend" champagne.
Developed by The Howard Hughes Corp., an affiliate of General Growth Properties Inc., Summerlin began to take shape in 1990.
It is a 22,500-acre master-planned community located along the western rim of the Las Vegas Valley.
The community features a number of amenities and is currently home to more than 95,000 residents.
With about 7,500 acres still to develop, including its urban core, Summerlin Centre, Summerlin is continuing to unfold.
Summerlin is home to more than 100 neighborhood and village parks, more than 150 completed miles of the Summerlin trail system, houses of worship, shopping centers, medical facilities, cultural facilities, business parks and more than 100 actively selling floor plans.
Homes are available in a variety of styles -- from single-family homes to townhomes, condominiums and lofts -- priced from the low $200,000s to more than $2 million.
Custom home sites in The Ridges are priced from the $500,000s. Luxury apartment homes offer monthly rents starting from the low $1,000s.
